Become a Member at Nahalat Shalom

5785 (2024-2025) Membership

Thank you for choosing to become a member of Nahalat Shalom. Our congregation is membership-driven and founded on equity, tolerance, and inclusion.  

Over the years we have faced many challenges, and recent times were especially rough. The events of October 7, 2023, shook communities around the world. Nahalat Shalom stayed true to its creed of supporting diversity in makeup and mindset. In an era fraught with division and heartbreak, the connection to a vibrant community is even more important than in times of peace.

Membership fees pay for services, staff salaries, building maintenance, and all of the programs that make Nahalat Shalom unique. They also grant practical and intangible benefits:

• A voice in our community, including a vote to approve our budget

• Eligibility to serve on the Va’ad (Council) and other leadership opportunities

• Ability to buy a plot for you or a family member in Nahalat Shalom’s section at La Puerta Burial Ground

• Pastoral Counseling and end of life services (funeral, memorial, and shiva) from our Rabbis

• A warm and inviting space for learning, celebration and spiritual growth

• Community support through hard times

• Reminder of loved one’s Yahrzeit (anniversary of death)

• Two hour use of our facility, at no cost, annually plus discounted rental rates

• $1,400 worth of B’nai Mitzvah preparation for families who have been members at least two years before the B’nai Mitzvah prep begins, and whose child has been a part of our religious school.

Our congregation needs largely $200,000 per year to support itself. If every family would pay $1,500 per year we would be on track to meet our goal. Nevertheless there is no minimal amount required to be a member. We pride ourselves on being inclusive and we never turn anyone away from our events regardless of their ability to pay.
