For September Queer Shabbat we'd like to offer a Queer Tashlich ceremony! (Instead of regular Queer Shabbat which will return in October).
SEPTEMBER 22nd, 2023
6:00 pm-7:30 pm
For location, email queershabbatnahalatshalom@gmail.com
Masks Required*
In person only**
Tashlich is the practice on the first day of Rosh Hashanah of "casting away sins" into the water.
While the word "sin" may feel Christian and challenging with having identities that some say inherently fall into that category, there's a great article from My Jewish Learning (link here) that expounds on the tradition and emphasizes the healing power of being around (or in!) water.
We'll cast away what isn't serving us and gather for a light service (bring poems, words, songs in line with our theme if you desire) and spend some time with the river.
*We'd like to make this gathering as inclusive as possible, especially with the recent surge. We'll mask when we're in our group, even as we're outside, to make the space as accessible as we can.
**For those not able to join in person, let me know and I can send you some of the resources we will use for Tashlich.
