Put the fun and funky into Hanuka at The FUNky Hanuka Fiesta and Sing-Along: a mega-event featuring a variety of fun diversions and family-friendly activities -- nourishing to the community and to the soul.
The FUNky Hanuka Fiesta is a fundraiser for our congregation and features a silent auction, arts and crafts by a variety of local artists and crafts people, children's games and activities, live music, dancing, a sing-along, and plenty of traditional holiday food for sale.
The FUNky Hanuka Fiesta will begin at 5:38 PM with a Havdallah service led by Cantor Beth Cohen and friends. From 5:45-6:30 and from 7-7:45, The Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band will play Hanuka and klezmer dance music and Rikud dancers will lead the fun and easy folk dances. At 6:30, children from Nahalat Shalom’s religious school will perform the Hanuka play STARNUKA WARS and they will also sing songs with their teacher and well-known local musical artist Seth Hoffman. Starting at 7:45PM, The Neo-Weavers, famous for leading the sing-along at the Albuquerque Folk Festival, will inspire everyone to sing songs of freedom, peace and justice from the bottoms of their hearts. The Neo-Weavers will also be joined by Seth Hoffman and Beth Cohen. Song sheets with the lyrics will be provided.
Suggested donation is $5 admission to party and $10 for the Neo-Weavers Sing-along. No charge for children. Dinner is available for purchase ($10) and includes homemade latkes, hummus, a large Greek salad with dolmas, beverage and desserts including sufganiyot (donuts). All are welcome. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
