Socially Distanced Demonstrations in Support of BLM

It’s a small action that conveys an important message to the public: there is a Jewish congregation in town that, as our signs read, stands against racial injustice and in solidarity with the Black Lives Movement. We aim to show that as Jews we bear witness and shall not remain silent. The distressing news from Kenosha adds urgency to raising our voice in the growing chorus of protest against this unrelenting racist violence. Six weeks ago, a team of dauntless NS members stood for an hour on Rio Grande Blvd in front of the synagogue holding signs stating that our Jewish congregation, Nahalat Shalom, proudly supports the Movement for Black Lives. Four weeks ago they stood for an hour on University Blvd at MLK Dr, and two weeks ago on Central at Girard.

We ask you to join our next event, 6:30-7:30 pm Thursday, September 3 at Uptown Loop Rd NE, just north of Indian School. This is the access road to Trader Joe's where our message will be shared with their many shoppers. We are carefully body-distanced, standing quietly about 30 feet apart. We hope to see you there. Please arrive before 6:30 and park at the north end of TJ's parking lot or across the street in the ABQ Uptown parking lot. Bring your own signs to hold or use one of ours. Signs should not speak for the Jewish community of ABQ, but for ourselves, nor should they include issues of abolishing or defunding police.
