Standing Together Against Racism - Building on Our Common Heritage

  • Nahalat Shalom 3606 Rio Grande Boulevard Northwest Albuquerque, NM, 87107 United States (map)

With Dr. Bernice A King, Dr. Susannah Heschel, and Rabbi Capers Funnye Jr.

In the midst of such harrowing times that we have all witnessed in recent years in our country, with the proffering of division, hatred and racism, it is our belief that every opportunity to display unity and conciliation helps nurture hope for the future. It is for this reason that we are turning to one of the most powerful historical narratives in the fight for justice and civil rights for inspiration: The friendship and alliance between Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, both of blessed memory. The relationship between the African American and Jewish communities, although tested at times, remains strong and all the more important in this era when standing together against racism is paramount.
