Join the Nahalat Shalom Safety Team for Active Shooter Training on September 7th. The Nahalat Shalom Safety is hosting a second active shooter training facilitated by Mike Hopkins (FBI) on Thursday September 7 from 6 to 8 pm. You do not need to be a member of the Safety Team to attend; all Nahalat Shalom members are invited to participate.

18 members of the Safety team and Nahalat Shalom staff and members participated in the first training session on June 25th . Attendees found the four-hour training informative and sobering, but left feeling empowered and that they had new skills that could make a difference in a crisis. Agent Hopkins was impressed by how many of our members have joined the Safety Team and attended the training. He emphasized the importance of having a cohort in a congregation who are trained in safety procedures in the event of a disaster. By holding a second training we hope to expand this cohort and consolidate our skills.

We are living in a time when violence is endemic. We are as likely to be confronted with violence in the supermarket or movie theater as in the shul. We do not want to dwell on this but we do want to be as prepared as we can be. We think this training will give our members skills that will protect our community and protect us we move about our daily lives.
