On Sunday, March 12, our religious school cheder community will join with our larger Nahalat Shalom community and ABQ Parks and Rec to plant trees—bringing back a beloved pre-Covid activity. We will meet promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the site and you are welcome to leave after you’ve planted or stay until noon. PLEASE RSVP to Batya Podos (batsongs@gmail.com) and Beth (cohenedmunds@netzero.net). They need to know exact numbers. Here’s what you need to know:
You should bring your own work gloves although they'll have some if you don’t have any. Wear close-toed boots or shoes, long pants and sleeves, water and whatever snacks, hats, or other things you will need to function through the outdoor work session.
Directions to the Planting Area:
This year we are planting on the east side of the river just south of Paseo Del Norte. The access is through an area we call Shining River Bosque which is off Rio Grande Blvd. Coming from the North (*easiest route), take Alameda to Rio Grande and head south. In approximately one mile or so, Rio Grande Boulevard passes over Paseo del Norte and the Shining River Bosque Access Parking lot will be immediately on the right (West).
The other option is to take Paseo del Norte to 2nd-4th Street and exit. If coming from the east, you’ll take a left and get to the far-right lane. Turn right onto Pueblo RD NW to Rio Grande Blvd (a hazardous tight turn with oncoming traffic). Turn right onto Rio Grande. The Shining River Bosque Access will be on the left in approximately a quarter mile.
Once in the Shining River Bosque Access parking lot, proceed through the gate (paralleling Paseo del Norte) to the Paseo del Bosque Trail. Cross the paved trail to gain access into the Bosque. Follow the dirt path (not the levy) south down into the Bosque to the planting site (about a third to half a mile).
