Let us welcome the arrival of the Sabbath Bride by chanting sacred phrases together, as we let go of the week that was and, in the silence after the chant, receive the blessings of Shabbat.
We will give voice to chants from our teacher Rabbi Shefa Gold, and consider the mitzvot of parsha Ki Tetze, which point to our complicated relationships to our stuff—what we feel we “own” and are entitled to—and how that can interfere with our joy. When is it enough? During this month of Elul, we are preparing to return, to right our wrongs and find our Source within. We will join in sending healing prayers and share in saying Kaddish.
Chanting Kabbalat Shabbat will meet in the cool and spacious Sanctuary at Nahalat Shalom. The chant sheet is available on the website calendar, though it’s not necessary to know the chants beforehand. The service leaders, Judy Brown and Sofie Shefia Stephanie Cohen, look forward to hearing all of our voices joining in generosity.
