Doors openat 6:30, The Rebbe’s Orkestra-klezmer and Judaic band will present “Kindling the Light” -a multicultural concert and participatory dance event. The concert will include songs and dance tunes from the Yiddish, klezmer, Sephardic, Israeli, Mizrahi, Rom (Gypsy) and American-Jewish repertoires –spanning a musical history of over 700 years.
The Rebbe’s Orkestra personnel is: Beth Cohen- vocals, violin, bowed psaltery, mandolin, tenor banjo and penny whistle; Randy Edmunds- vocals, guitar and Macedonian tambura; Barbara Friedman- vocals, electric bass and Macedonian tambura; Debo Orlofsky- vocals and accordion; and percussionist Mary Masuk. Dancing, which will be led and quick-taught by Penina Ballen, is welcome and encouraged throughout the evening.
The first half of the program will be more of a “sit-down” concert and the second half will feature dance music. The audience is welcome to remain seated to listen and watch if they do not wish to dance.
You are invited to bring their your Menorote/ Hanukkiote with eight candles to light at 7pm (there will be extras for people to share). Sufganiyote (donuts), chips and salsa and beverages will also be available for a donation.
