Download SONG SHEET AND PRAYERS
Please join us as we celebrate Shabbat in the Sephardic tradition. Sofie Shefia will lead us in song and prayer, joined by Hershel Weiss, one of the founding organizers. The evening includes an opportunity for everyone to share from their heart, and bilingual readings of Sephardic poetry, presented by writer, researcher, teacher and translator Héctor Contreras López. We will be focusing on the poetry of award winning poet and journalist Myriam Moscona. Ms. Moscona will join us to read her poem La letra beth.
Born in Mexico City in 1955, of Bulgarian Sephardic descent, Myriam Moscona is possibly the most important poet writing in Ladino today. She currently lives in Mexico City. Moscona is the author of nine books, including Tela de sevoya (Random House Mondadori, 2012) a hybrid narrative that weaves together memory and fiction; the backdrop to the book is Moscona's family language, Ladino, or Judeo-Spanish.
All are welcome!
