Tu bShvat is the New Year of the trees, like Jewish Arbor Day. It’s the time when the sap begins to rise in the apparently dormant trees. In ancient times, this was like 'tax day'; fruits would be counted for tax purposes. The mystics transformed the day into one honoring the four worlds of reality by eating and blessing different kinds of fruits, one for each of the worlds. The Seder is a lovely, tasty, accessible and delightful ceremony.

To participate in the blessings for and the eating & drinking of the different fruits and juices (or wine) - PLEASE BRING:

  • Fruits and nuts with a hard inedible outer shell or rind and soft insides: citrus fruit, pomegranates, coconut, almonds, walnuts, pistachios.

  • Fruits that have soft outsides with a hard inner core/pit: prunes, dates, olives, avocado.

  • Fruits which are completely edible: figs, raisins, apples, grapes, pears, blueberries.

  • Red and white grape juice or wine.
