Special Sehardic Shabbat Dinner with Guest Speaker, Luis Portero de la Torre
This service, which usually meets on the 2nd Shabbat of the month, consciously explores the connections with our Sephardic Heritage. (Sefarad is the Hebrew word for Spain and Sephardic refers to those Jews who once lived in Spain and then were expelled, and who carried their language and their traditions with them wherever they went.)
Our guest speaker will be Spanish attorney Luis Portero de la Torre who helped write the Spanish citizenship law.
We also invite everyone to bring a hannukiah (menorah) and candles to light together, and to enjoya holiday sing-a-long led by Cantor Beth, with songs in Ladino, Hebrew and even Tom Lehrer's "Hanukah in Santa Monica."
The dinner is, as always, vegetarian potluck. So bring your favorite vegetarian dish or a dessert to share. We look forward to welcoming you at 6.30pm and the evening will start promptly at 7pm.Hosted by Maria Apodaca, Stephanie Cohen, Hershel Weiss. We meet in Bayt B'racha, the building on the north side of the courtyard.
