Class meets via Zoom for 4 Sessions: Thursdays, February 25, March 4, 11, 18.
What is the connection between the Black Plague in Europe in the mid fourteenth century and the existence of Conversos in contemporary New Mexico? Why do some New Mexico families celebrate the life of a saint who is not on the official list of Catholic saints? Why are Crypto Jews still hiding? We will explore these questions, among others, in four sessions that look at how history, religion, and culture interact in medieval Spain, the New World, and New Mexico for B'nai Asusim, the descendants of those who were forced to convert from their traditional Jewish practices.
