Zoom: Moving Yiddish Poetry with Bruce Bierman

A choreopoem is a form of dramatic expression that weaves text, dance, movement, music and song all together in one seamless flow. This 75 minute workshop will share all the fun tools needed to create a fully-embodied choreopoem highlighting the art of celebrated 20th century Yiddish poet, Celia Dropkin. Creating in pairs, individually and as an ensemble, participants will discover the immediate relevancy of Dropkin's passionate poems and how engaging it is to breath life into them with full voice, body and soul!

Bruce Bierman choreographed the poems of Itzik Manger for the Berkeley Jewish Music Festival's celebrated production of 'The Megilleh of Itzik Manger' . He is currently developing a movement theater piece based on the poetry of Irene Klepfisz with Naomi Newman---founding member of A Traveling Jewish Theater.
