Bio Karen Golden

Joanie Calem is a singer/songwriter, storyteller and inclusion advocate. Born in Seattle, WA, Joanie moved to Israel at 15, where she began her career as a performer and an educator.  In 1998, Joanie and her growing family moved from Israel to Columbus, OH, and since then, she has spent her days sharing song and story programs, both nationally and internationally.  Joanie’s performance work centers around the age-old value of inclusion, and she loves bringing wisdom tales from around the world that give evidence of how cultures have always taught inclusion (even when their actions might belie the fact!) Joanie’s stories might be sung, they might be spoken, they might be drummed and they might be danced, but they will always provide a way for the listeners to participate and join in the call to make room for us all.
