Bio Judith Black
Judiths’ traditional and original stories rock laughing audiences to their feet and bring tears to their eyes. Winner of the Oracle: Circle of Excellence, storytelling’s most coveted award, Judith’s been featured at The Montreal Comedy Festival, The National Storytelling Festival, The Smithsonian Institution, Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the National Art Museum in Cape Town, and NPR. She’s performed at over 10 CAJE conferences, hosting opening and closing ceremonies as well as participating in concerts and teaching classes. Her work explores B’nai Mitzvah, familial function and dysfunction, parenting, aging and end-of life, and in the last decade has evolved to focus on our climate crisis. Her workshop enable participants to create original midrash, stories from their lives, tales that reflect moral and behavioral choices, and nurture a respect for out natural world. Most recently she has worked with synagogues (both live and via ZOOM) to create story slams with members on specific topics and then use them as fund raisers and a tool for community development and bonding. She creates original stories for organizations and institutions and has served as artist-in-residence for hundreds of educational and religious communities.
